Examining Point of Focus In Parts of Images Using A Sabino Canyon Fiddleneck As The Subject
Submitted to Our Daily Challenge's (ODC) "Extreme" Challenge... Doing all this work, today, to learn a tiny wee bit about my photographic equipment's capabilities and quirks strikes even me as rather extreme... Some might say it's an example of obsessive and compulsive behavior...

Amsinckia menziesii var. intermedia
Lens: Canon EF75-300mm f/4-5.6

Location: Sabino Canyon, Coronado National Forest, Sonoran Desert, Tucson, Arizona

A comparison of images of Amsinckia menziesii var. intermedia shot at close to the same time.
The plane of focus varies from shot to shot. Different parts of this plant are in focus in this group of images.
The top of this fiddle head plant is in sharper in the left image, and the lower part is sharper in the right image. Yes, that is why macros are so difficult. However, these zoomed and cropped images were shot at a distance of a few meters, and are really not even close to being macros.
We were fortunate to have Sabino Canyon Naturalist Anne Green showing us the details of this fascinating plant. It appears on page 95 of "A Naturalist's Guide To Sabino Canyon."
