Charles O. Oldfield

Charles O. Oldfield (left) by A.D. Lytle of Baton Rouge, La. A saddler in Ohio before the war, Oldfield (1834-1920) joined the Twentieth Ohio Infantry in April 1861. After his three-month term of enlistment expired, he became an officer in the Ninety-sixth Ohio Infantry. He served most of the war in Louisiana and Alabama, and mustered out of the army as a first lieutenant in July 1865. He poses here with comrade George W. Kline (1836-1914), the Ninety-sixth's regimental quartermaster.
