And so began the assault on Stout Keep Hill/
The attack began shortly after the East garrison fell. Lord Stout's men had gathered for weeks in anticipation for the assault on Stout Keep. The council had concocted a three phased attack in order to break the defenses.
Phases I. The main gate was accessed only by a long and shallow staircase that fronted the main battlements. The staircase also bottle necked, allowing only a few men to defend it effectively. The assault would be long and hard fought, but the East Stowburn elite, the Blood Helms, had volunteered their unit to lead the charge,. They knew many of them would not see the dawn of the next day, but still they would push the enemy line to their brink.
Phase II. The main attack would come against the South stable wall and main tower.Scaling ladders would be brought up after the bulk of the defenders were drawn to defend the gate. They would come fast and hard to overwhelm the Outlaw forces. The only drawback being that the wall access was only five men wide and they could get only a few ladders up at a time. Never the less this would be the focus point of the campaign.
Phases III. Lord Stout took the fleet he was newly awarded to lead to assault against the waterfall side of the Keep. He took the most veteran of men and planned to take the Northeast guard tower. The waterfall did provide the most direct access to the Keep, but if the men were caught then it would also prove to be the most dangerous.
This attack would be all or nothing. If they could not take the Keep that afternoon, they would not be able to take the Keep until after they had been re-enforced after the assault on the Royal Isle.
