British Rail Class 6S 1005 Diesel Electric - Down 22 17.45 Charing Cross-Hastings (diversion via Chislehurst-Swanley-Bat & Ball-Sevenoaks) - Approaching Eynsford Viaduct - Eynsford Kent - 6May1978 - 21103gxxn
The first seven of the twenty three narrow profile Hastings Diesel Electric units were built with shorter underframes. So, at the time of this photo of 6S 1005, since only three of its sisters 1001 1006 and 1007 were still running in six car format, it was hit and miss catching one and particularly a single one on this diverted service. The other three 1002 1003 and 1004 had been utilised to form six "Tadpole" units for use on the Tonbridge to Reading service in 1964
