Can you give a two-second estimate of how many pieces of candy there were?

 

Are you familiar with Glenn and Janet Doman's "How to Teach Your Baby Math" book? (Amazon)

There's a limit to how many items we can perceive numerically at a glance, but the limit can be raised by early training. We did some of that with our child as a baby. Lacking a suitable control, I have no idea whether it made a difference or not... but they're really good at math now.
