from one of countless visits to cousins on Long Island and yet more extended family in various bits of Ohio,aunts in Vermont and Maine and an elderly uncle in Chicago. theyre all on mother's side of the family which is mainly Sicilian and Irish (her greatgrandfather was a steeplejack and some were,and some still are,with the Fire Dept. Afew are farmers in rural Ohio although one of them is related on father's side of the huge tribe. our family is vastly enormously huge,there is another branch,all on mother's side in Oz - Queensland,NSW,Tas, and one has a sheepstation near the Woomera rocketrange.
near,in Oz,can mean a few hundred miles off but its slightly nearer than that. some came to England in early 1900's and our maternal grandfather went to Staffordshire and was down the pit all his working life and her brothers also were miners. she herself started as a kitchenmaid at Thornbury when Granpa was there then it was noticed she sewed very well and she was promoted to Sewing Room.
