Seems odd to me to name a group of mountains after a valley (isn't "mountain" the exact opposite of "valley?" And come to think of it "pines" seem to be in rather short supply in the area.), but no matter, I thought these mountains, recently dusted with snow, the reddish hills in front of them, and the clouds made for a very pretty scene--a scene that will never in a billion years be repeated exactly. (Of course, in a billion years these mountains will be long gone.)

This was taken on my somewhat ill-fated trip to see the Kolob Canyon section of Zion National Park (if interested, you can read about that here: www.flickr.com/photos/80014607@N05/54385746986/in/datepos... ). This Joshua Tree was the only one I saw in the area (well, there was one other small sickly looking specimen nearby), so I suspect it was transplanted here rather than sprang up naturally.

This is a Pao combining 5 photos using my 70-300mm lens at 70mm.
