Dusk at the Factory

Factory Butte, Utah

I meant to arrive at this spot earlier, but spent a bit more time in Capitol Reef National Park than intended. It was quite dark when I got here, darker than it appears in the photo. There was just a slight orange glow on the horizon.

This is the kind of photo I usually would treat as a monochrome, but it just wasn't working for me.

I must confess, though this rock is certainly worthy of a photographic treatment, I was a bit disappointed. I couldn't see how it was particularly noteworthy among the buttes of the world. I passed a number of similar natural edifices just southwest of this spot. Personally, I prefer Mount Garfield in Western Colorado (see: www.flickr.com/photos/80014607@N05/51687613196/stats/), not to mention many of the buttes in Monument Valley or Valley of the Gods. Maybe I'm missing something? In any case, I was happy to take its portrait.

Owing to the darkness, don't expect its resolution to be particularly high.
