West Mitten
Monument Valley, Arizona
When I took this, I assumed I would process this in B&W, though as I fiddled with it, for awhile I thought I'd eventually settle for a color version as the separation between the bluff and sky wasn't what I'd hoped. I kept at it, however, and though never fully satisfied (I seldom am), decided to go with my original vision.
For those not familiar with the area, it straddles the Utah/Arizona border to the extreme southeast/northeast of the respective states, not far from the Four Corners. This is called a "Mitten" for obvious reasons, and is designated "west" to distinguish it from a near mirror image bluff a quarter mile or so east of this. The two together make for a remarkable vista.
I spent a day and 1/2 here, though would have liked to have spent more time. As it was, I shot a truckload of photos.
