Cuervo Catholic Church

In Cuervo, New Mexico--a virtual ghost town. I had previously uploaded another photo from the remnants of the town here: www.flickr.com/photos/80014607@N05/44586257910/ . Both were taken on my way back home from my December Texas trip (2018).

The church is no longer functioning, but clearly someone put a new roof on the place not that long ago, so someone(s) still has an interest in the place.

Of course, I cannot know for sure, but it seems to me that the main body of the church was probably built by the community as opposed to professionally commissioned. The entry, however, was clearly built later and smacks of the involvement of professionals, though the stone immediately above the archway with the builder's names and date of construction, again looks to be more amateurish (by which I am not denigrating their efforts). It also would appear that these amateur builders were Hispanic, with Spanish/Castilian being their primary language (the Hispanic names and the grammatical error give it away).

Unfortunately, the place was locked and the windows covered so my curiosity about the interior is left wanting.
