Crumbling in a Wintery Wonderland

The Delia (Kansas) one-room schoolhouse as of today (1/12/19). I'd be tied for first among those who proclaim that snow can turn a landscape into something magical. Unlike many of my fellow gold medal appreciators, however, all 'n all, I pretty much hate winter. I mean like, BRRRRRRR! That's why you see relatively few winter scenes in my stream--at least, winter scenes that LOOK like winter scenes. I'm more than happy to go out mid-winter and capture photos when the temperature is a balmy 60 degrees F--which thankfully, recent winters have provided quite a few of these temperatures. But when winter resembles the winters of childhood, my motivation for taking my camera out of its bag drops to about 20% of normal . . . near 0% if it's really cold. Even when nature has outdone herself in sculpting scenes in the medium of snow and or ice, I usually give it a pass and remain ensconced in the warmth of my room.

Last night, the Topeka area got a fair amount of very wet snow, so I was sorely tempted to sleep in and keep my camera stashed away. For reasons inexplicable to me, however, I dragged myself out of bed with the main purpose of driving to this relic of a bygone era. I considered driving to the school seen two photos back, but that was more than twice as far and decided this one would do. This one has found its way into my stream before--being one of the first subjects I focused on with my new Nikon D810 (see, for example: www.flickr.com/photos/80014607@N05/25286898667/ ). Most of the roads leading here were fine, but some were of the dirt and gravel variety and were pretty nasty, but I had no major problems. Anyway, this is a pano combining three shots.
