Crown Candy, St. Louis, MO

Until a couple months ago, I'd never heard of this little luncheonette and confectionery, but then I saw a mini-documentary of the place at the Sarasota Film Festival in early April (2017), and then just happen to run across it on my way home. I was driving along I-70 and exited not far from the airport into a neighborhood that seemed to have more than its fair share of dilapidated buildings--looking for subject matter for my camera. After dealing with an annoying flat tire, I roamed about and stumbled on Crown Candy. It is apparently iconic for many, with visitors from other countries dropping in with some regularity. The neighborhood in which it resides ("Old North St. Louis") seems to be an interesting one--with the aforementioned crumbling edifices mixed with some very nice old buildings. Talking with a gentleman who lived in the area, the neighborhood apparently saw some recent upheaval related to the Ferguson demonstrations. He also told me that they were about to experience some influx of federal government jobs (I can't recall specifically what I was told, but in any case, Homeland Security related).
