It is the reality of frightening madness and beauty.
The town hall of Oegstgeest used to be a sanatorium for the mentally insane. This beautifully ornamented cage has a rather morbid history. It was put in place after several of the former patients of the sanatorium committed suicide by throwing themselves over the balustrade.
The ghost of an eerie past dwells in this place.
