5385 (LKP 385P) was part of an order for sixteen double deckers intended for experimental detailed evaluation in service with Maidstone & District on behalf of the National Bus Company on a comparative basis. These comprised five Volvo Ailsas, five Scania Metropolitans and six Bristol VRs. All entered service in NBC green and white livery at Silverhill (Hastings) depot in February 1976 and subsequently moved to Luton (Chatham) depot the following year, for more trials. Withdrawn in 1983 5385 later saw use with operators in Scotland and Yorkshire before passing into preservation in February 1999. Here it is seen at the Castle Point Transport Museum Transport Show held at Canvey Island in Essex on October 8th 2006.
