John Proulx is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he grew up in the trendy Eastown area. The son of two talented musicians, Mark and Suzanne Proulx, he began his formal musical education at the age of 3 on Suzuki violin, but quickly switched to classical piano lessons. His grandfather, Clyde Proulx, was a jazz guitarist who introduced him to the world of jazz.

 

In 1994 he graduated from Catholic Central High School (Grand Rapids, Michigan). After high school, John attended Aquinas College in Grand Rapids for two years. He then moved to Chicago where he studied at Roosevelt University’s Chicago School of Performing Arts. In 2001, John moved to Los Angeles to further his musical pursuits.

 

John Proulx has composed songs for legendary jazz artists Nancy Wilson, Mary Stallings, and Greg Walker.

Berghofer played in high school trumpet and tuba and switched to double bass at age eighteen. Since 1945 he lives in Los Angeles , where he worked with Bobby Troup / Herb Ellis played (1958) and 1960 for the band of Shelly Manne belonged. He also played with Freeman , Conte Candoli , Art Pepper , and many other musicians of the West Coast jazz . Since the 1960s he was mainly involved in the studios of film and television scores. He was also on recordings of Bill Berry , Frank Capp / Nat Pierce , Bob Cooper , Quincy Jones , Zoot Sims , Rosemary Clooney , Stacy Rowles , Diane Schuur and Mel Tormé involved. As Frank Zappa 1967, the orchestra parts of Lumpy Gravy recorded, Berghofer belonged to Abnuceals Emuukha Electric Symphony Orchestra. In 1972 he played with Van Dyke Parks Discover America.

 

In 2010 he published together with Terry Trotter and Peter Erskine Album Live @ Charlie O's, 2011, with Jan Lundgren and Joe LaBarbera Thanks for the Memory Album with film music composer Ralph Rainger .

 

He is also the bass intro of Nancy Sinatra's " These Boots Are Made for Walkin '
