Improved placement of plants by sampling a perlin noise function over a grid and using a threshold value to decide whether we want to place a plant at that point. This gives a nicer grouping of plants. The actual point is placed randomly around the sample point to avoid it looking too uniform.

 

Added red "budding" to some of the sea weed. In a bracketed L-System it is easy to detect the tips of the tree, so added a stochastic (random) rule that would add a special "bud" token for some tips. When rendering the plant I just did these lines fatter and in red.
