A song so famous that it was generally believed to be by an anonymous author: as such it was mistakenly included in the "primitive GCCs", and hence in the site at first. In fact, it is now a popular song (whose fame began with its adoption as the "anthem" of Martin Luther King's civil rights movement in 1963); but the author is Pete Seeger, who was inspired by a 19th century Negro spiritual, "No More Auction Block for me" (a chilling title) for the music and the gospel. ..) for the music and to the gospel "I'll Overcome Some Day" by Charles Tindley (1900) for the words.
