Angola Fire Aftermath - Neighborhoods Gone

The Angora Fire, as a result of an illegal campfire, began around 2:15 PM on Sunday, June 24, 2007 south of Lake Tahoe and east of Fallen Leaf Lake.

The fire burned 3,100 acres (12.5 km²), destroyed 242 residences and 67 commercial structures, and damaged 35 other homes. At the peak, there were as many as 2,180 firefighters involved in battling the blaze. The State of California declared it a state of emergency. 3,000 evacuations were prompted, making it among the top half-dozen most costly fires in the U.S.
