Grave site of Father Damien 1840-1889

Fr. Damien was the lone priest sent to the leper colony of Kalaupapa along with some Catholic nuns. Fr. Damien built houses, churches, made coffins, dug graves and tended to the spiritual needs of 3,000 lepers in the colony. Fr. Damien contracted leprosy and died in 1889. The Island of Moloka'i
