Celestial Navigator
This is Captain Norm Baker descending the Eagle Creek slots. He was the celestial navigator for all three of Thor Heyerdahl's reed boat expeditions, the Ra and Ra II. We were blessed with Norm, his cutting humor and incredible stories, while hiking in the Missouri Slot Canyons. He is 82 years old and put many of us younger hikers to shame during our hikes in the Upper Missouri Breaks National Monument... Not quite a Kontiki adventure, but, an incredible canoe expedition of 18 people! Norm also conquered the Matterhorn on his honeymoon... He is one of the finest explorers to be found on this planet.
