Form Follows Function
This is an example of the Form Follows Function Principle. The ubiquitous stop light. It is very simple, a rectangular body with 3 lights. The green means "Go", the red means "Stop" and the yellow means "Caution, about to turn red". It's easily readable at any point of the day and in any kinds of weather. It can be understood by anyone and even for the colorblind. If the colorblind can tell which light is on then they can understand what the stoplight is saying. Even those stoplights with arrows, the color of it and the direction of the arrows can be easily be read and understood. It keeps the streets safe from being a huge car derby arena. Even if there is a problem with the lights, like in a huge storm, either the red or the yellow lights will flash meaning either to slowly cross the intersection or stop and go at the intersection. So the stop light follows the Form Follows Function Principle very well.
