Circular Quay, Sydney

Freshwater ferry boat is moored at Circular Quay Sydney, with the 1960s AMP Tower and newer 2022 Quay Quarter Tower in the background with its cantilever structure.

Interestingly, the Quay Quarter Tower was recycled from the old 1970s AMP Centre through a transformative redesign and adaptive reuse process. The original structure was stripped back to its concrete core, retaining key elements such as the foundation and structural framework, while the outdated facades were replaced with a new, modern design. This approach minimized demolition waste and embodied a sustainable, forward-thinking strategy, blending the old with the new to create a dynamic, energy-efficient skyscraper that enhances both the building’s functionality and its connection to the surrounding environment.
