'Simpson & His Donkey'
This Wallace Anderson sculpture is dedicated in honour of the valour and compassion of the Australian soldier. It embodies John Simpson Kirkpatrick, a stretcher bearer who used a donkey to expedite his work. Simpson and his donkey, Duffy, worked alone day and night, carrying the wounded to dressing stations and water to the frontline.
I have used this photograph to depict an excerpt from the poem, "Simpson & His Donkey" by David Smith White, which you can see more clearly when Viewed On Black
