Maserati 250F - Stirling Moss

The Australian Grand Prix (AGP) is the world's third oldest, continuously contested national Grand Prix. The AGP was held at Melbourne's Albert Park in 1956, the same year that the Olympic Games were held in Melbourne. Record crowds estimated at 125,000 watched Stirling Moss win in a Maserati 250F (number 7), over 80 laps - or 250 miles - of the lakeside circuit, on 2nd December 1956.

While driving a mint condition Maserati 250F on BBC's Top Gear in 2005, Jeremy Clarkson said that the tyres would be more at home on a Raleigh Chopper, and whilst travelling at great speed in the vehicle, with his face visibly contorted from wind resistance, reported "I've got no seatbelts, no roll bar, and I don't care!"

He went on to lose control of the vehicle, commenting nervously "Oh no, I'm spinning in a million pounds. I've just spun a car worth a million pounds. Oh dear..."
