The start/stop button delegates one control, the rotation of the record platter. The start/stop button is one of the oft-imitated qualities of the Technics 1200 turntable, which are all about precision. When a DJ uses a Technics turntable, he/she knows that there will be no delay between pressing the start button and having the platter start spinning at the designated speed. This is the advantage of having a beltless turntable. The affordance of this button is quite obvious. It is the largest button on the device and is easy to locate. The button is also clearly labeled. The ease of use is also its downfall. It's sometimes too easy to hit the button because of its large size and stop the playing of your record. I've made that accident before during a live set. - JLu
