Application phrasing

As I was working on my application for Osaka Gakuin I ran across this

question. " Do you plan to sit the JLPT soon?" I knew what the question was

asking however the phrasing was off. If one changes the word sit to attend

or take, it sounds correct, but technically don't we sit in tests? So why

doesn't this sound right?
