THE FIFTH TRUMPET - THE FIRST WOE

Revelation 9:1-12, "And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon. One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter."

An angel is now seen in plain view of all those in heaven at this time. He announces the last three trumpet warnings. He states “Woe, woe, woe to the inhabiters of the earth...” This is the reason that the last three trumpet warnings are sometimes called the three woes.

Some would say that the star that falls from heaven is a meteorite, which falls to the earth and cracks the crust to open a passage to the mantle below. This volcano then releases gases and smoke into the sky. They go on to theorize that the creatures released from this impact are an as of yet undiscovered species that live far below the surface of the earth.

Even though one of our premises is to interpret prophecy literally wherever possible this verse does not speak of a literal meteorite. The star that fell from heaven cannot be referred to as a meteorite because later in this passage the personal pronoun 'him' is used in reference to the star. Neither can a meteorite perform the complex task of using a key to unlock the access to the bottomless pit. This star that fell from heaven can be none other than Satan himself. For example, when the dragon was cast to the earth in Rev. 12:4 it is said that his tail drew down a third of the stars of heaven. This figurative language refers to fallen angels or in other words, demons. Satan himself being an angel can also be called a star, or in this case fallen star.

When Satan opens the abyss smoke issues forth which is described as smoke like that of a huge furnace. This indicates that the abyss is indeed a place of burning. From out of the smoke issues forth what John calls a swarm of locusts. These are like no locusts ever before seen. Normally locusts attack crops and anything green. These locusts completely ignore anything green and only attack those who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. These locusts will be malevolent and intelligent. They will be able to tell the difference between Christians and non-Christians. This indicates a certain level of spiritual discernment and demonic control.

Just as the demons who had been expelled from the Gaderine demoniac went into a heard of swine and caused them to plummet headlong over a cliff, so also will the mutated locusts which come out of the smoke of the Abyss be demonically controlled. They will have but one desire and that is to inflict pain and anguish upon those men women and children who are still undecided as to whom they will follow. The only ones exempt from this plague are those who have the seal of God on their foreheads. These include the 144,000 and the tribulation saints. This seal as we have said before is the infilling of the Holy Spirit Ephesians 1:13.

For five months after they are stung men and women will seek death and not be able to find it. Children also will be exposed to this terrible evil. It will be no different than in the days of Moses. The plagues affected all of Egypt, including the children. Israel in turn was unaffected. The sins of the parents will be delivered on the children in a terrible way during the great tribulation. The children will suffer because of the stubbornness and hard-heartedness of their parents.

Those who are suffering will look upon those who are immune and a great hatred will arise in their hearts. They will become even more hardened to the call of the Lord. They will blame Him and in turn His followers for all of the torment they are going through. The world will quickly turn on the Christians and this is just the beginning of Satan's plan to rid the earth of all Christian influence. — at www.apocalypsetheunveiling.com.
