Crowds Leaving

Yes, a crowd in 2020! The Australia vs. India T-20 cricket game drew 30,436 people to the Sydney Cricket Ground - an excellent crowd, especially considering the NSW government relaxed COVID restrictions just a couple of days before. The southern half of the stadium was packed, with a lot of India supporters very visible and waving flags (no flags now as Australia won).

Australia has been relatively successful managing COVID, due to shutting down the travel industry and sensible restrictions on people gatherings - which enabled better tracking of pandemic cases and targeted action. A large proportion of cases stemmed from international travel quarantine.

From 22 January to 12 December 2020, there have been 28,025 total cases and 908 deaths in a population of 25 million. It is a sombre statistic that total is less than the 3,309 Americans killed by COVID on the most lethal day.
