Colour at Karnak
I hadn't really thought of it before, but it was a surprise to find that Ancient Egypt's temples such as Karnak would once have shone in glorious colour. Here's a glimpse of the (once covered) Great Hypostyle Hall in Karnak, with the colour preserved for 3000 years as it doesn't see direct sunlight.
A restoration program has begun with about 60 volunteers cleaning the 134 columns, which takes about 10 days per column. Care must be taken not to remove the paint which is under the dust.
