Sydney 2015 NYE fireworks' gold waterfall

New Year's 'rivers of gold'...a dramatic feature of the 2015 Sydney fireworks.

Apparently over a million people came to the city to watch but that was well down on last year, reflecting caution after the recent siege in Martin Place.

The event was well organised. The Foti family's 'pyro crew' orchestrated the $750,000 fireworks show. Total event costs were estimated at $7.2 million.

Overnight Bondi Beach was deserted after cancellation of Shore Thing which had previously hosted acts including Skrillex and Chemical Brothers. Council and police demands caused the promoter to pull out. Separately, Uber's surge pricing got another unfortunate mention for charging a customer $213 for a trip from Sydney's CBD to Coogee (the 14km costs ~$35 in a taxi).
