Safranbolu, Turkey

A UNESCO World Heritage site, Safranbolu became an affluent trading center of safron and other commodities along Turkey's east-west routes beginning in the 13th century AD. The city was added to UNESCO's World Heritage list in 1994 due to its distinct architecture, which influenced urban planning and design throughout the Ottoman Empire.
