[NT] Hardwick Hall Park. June 2020. How Bizarre!

Took this at The National Trust's Hardwick Hall Park, Derbyshire. Not sure what it is. Never seen anything like it. It was on the stem of a reed in the water. It's about 3cm in length and 1.5cm in width.

Perhaps its some kind of fungi?

There were no others the same around.
