"Guide-Free" metal tube fishing rod manufactured by W. E. Co. L.A. Calif. with a Pflueger Summit 1993L reel. The rod is a very unique and rare guide-free metal tube design made of genuine beryllium copper. Beryllium copper is a non-magnetic physically tough alloy that is resistant to staining, corosion, abrasive wear, and galling. It is a tough and durable alloy that is used for parts that are subjected to repeated stress and strain but must retain their strength and shape. Beryllium copper attains the highest strength of any copper-based alloy.
I came across this item back in the early 1970's and I would say it dates from the mid to late 1950's. I kept it as a show piece and never used it for fishing. Both the rod and smooth operating reel are in excellent condition. Made in USA.
