A summer's evening in 2019

I'm frequently asked about my love of B&W photography and my interest in street photography.

I started shooting B&W on film in the 1970s and have generally preferred it as it strips out the distraction of colour.

When we got our second schnauzer, I wanted something to do when I was out walking the dogs so I bought a rangefinder styled PEN-F with a few fast primes and and I was able to easily carry the gear and take my dogs out for a walk, looking for street shots as I went.

This image was the first street shot that I took that made me realise that this was a genre I could pursue while walking the dogs, so it's now around 4 years that I've been shooting this style.

The incredible IBIS on Olympus cameras negated the need for a tripod and most shots are taken single handed as I've the dogs leads in my other hand.

My everyday carry camera is now the Leica Q2M which is a B&W only camera and while the OIS on the Leica is not as good as the IBIS on the Olympus, the 28mm Summilux lens is fantastic and the sensor can easily cope with ISO12800.
