Reflections of Venice
The iconic view from Ponte Accademia towards the church of S. Maria della Salute at sunrise.
I was up early in the morning and had already taken one image of this scene from the top of Ponte Accademia with which i was quite happy. I then visited another venue, the Piazza San Barnaba where i wanted to do a sunrise shot of the church there. After that shot i thought i already had what i wanted and ventured back to my hotel. I had to cross the Ponte Accademia again. When i reached that bridge on my way back i noticed that the golden hour light was much better than the light in the image i had already taken. Now the buildings on the right were perfectly lit and there was an interesting cloud over the Basilica of S. Maria della Salute. I stopped at the foot of the Accademia Brige where the Vaporetto stop is and grabbed a handheld shot of this scenery. I was too lazy to put my camera on the tripod again to do a longexposure shot. Therefore the water is not blurred. When i reviewed the images at home i found that i preferred this image over the one taken from on top of the bridge even though the other one is a good image. The light on the golden house on the right is just wonderful, and the moving water adds a nice texture to the image. This is a great example to embrace the conditions you find and not to stick too closely to a preset idea.
