2021.08 meteora walk
in sunset...
Meteora is a place wellknown for its bizzare landscape and the monasteries perched on top of some conglomerate rock pillars. The place is also well known among the rock climbing enthusiasts, since fifty years. All the rock pillars have names like the HolyGrail, the Bell, the HolySpirit or the GuardOfHolySpirit and many others. The rock that first gave shelter to the monks is named Doupiani. Doupiani. The same rock hosts most of the climbing routes nowadays.
One hot summer afternoon, after completing a three pitch climbing route in Doupiani, two friends with their teen sons, four persons in total were standing on top of Doupiani. After spending some good hour on top, the small team headed to the abseiling point.
On the photo is my son, just before sunset, playing carelessly with the sheaves on the top of the rock. Needless to say that the last person abseiled down with the dim light that remained in the sky.
