ACAT, UNHCR's implementing partner registers internally displaced Haitians near Champs de Mar in downtown Port au Prince. UNHCR will distribute 5,000 birth certificates by the end of 2012.

 

Civilians who lack birth certificates are unable to access basic public services like education and health care. It is estimated that 40% of Haiti’s internally displaced population lost their civil registration documents after the earthquake and 30% of Haitian children do not have birth certificates.
