Hengifoss waterfall, East Iceland
Hengifoss is the third highest waterfall in Iceland and has a drop of 128 meters.The waterfall is located in Hengifossá in Fljótsdalshreppur in East Iceland. The Hengifoss is surrounded by basaltic strata with thin, red layers of clay between the basaltic layers. Geologists have also discovered fossilised trees within the layers, evidential of much warmer periods during the tertiary period.
