Berserkjahraun lava fields, Snæfellsnes, Iceland (explored)
Berserkjahraun is a 3-4000-year-old lava field situated on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Berserkjahraun means literally "mad-man's lava field".
The name Berserkjahraun comes from one of the Icelandic Sagas, Eyrbyggja-Saga.
Two extinct craters to the right on the shot being called Gráakúla and Smáhraunakúla.
When I made a trip to Snæfellsnes Covid 19 had started a few months earlier and due to travel restrictions very little traffic was to be seen on the roads. Sitting on the slope of a mountain, looking over ancient lava fields and hearing no other sounds than only the sound of the strong wind blowing through the mountains gave me a real out of this world feeling.
