Visitor entrance to Kenilworth Castle. A castle was established here in the 12th century by Geoffrey de Clinton, and subsequent owners included John of Gaunt, Henry V and Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester. The latter entertained Elizabeth I here. It was once at the centre of a huge hunting ground and was surrounded by a lake.
