Regina Catrambone è una giovane e ricca donna italiana che vive a Malta. Dopo una gitta in barca, vedendo galleggiare una giacca da uomo in mare, rimase costernata dalla risposta del capitano ”sarà probabilmente di un poveraccio affogato con quelle maledette barche”
Da allora un pensiero fisso che trasforma in azione concreta-queste tragedie non possono più accadere,la gente che può non deve stare a guardare.
Con marito Christopher decide di comprare una nave di 40 metri e la allestisce completamente a spese loro (circa 800 000 euro) per soccorso in mare. Phoenix è una nave da soccorso con un equipaggio extra: marinai esperti di sicurezza,medici e una psicologa. Ha due ponti immensi uno per le donne e altro per uomini naufraghi,una infermeria e cucina. Piccolo eliporto e due droni per ispezionare con immagini da distanze diverse anche la più piccola caretta del mare.
Regina e marito Christopher hanno fondato la MOAS,Migrant Offshore Aid Station, la fondazione privata no-profit umanitaria che mira ad assistere le imbarcazioni nel mediterraneo centrale e salvare le vite umane, prima di questo genere. Dall’inizio del progetto,agosto 2014, il team della Phoenix ha lavorato a stretto contatto con le autorità impegnate nel Mediterraneo con l’operazione Mare Nostrum salvando circa 3000 vite umane.....Vite Umane...vite umane di qui anche bambini, belli,bellissimi come i nostri
