Arachtober 6th Amaurobius similis - Lace web spider
Amaurobius similis average between 8 and 12mm body length. This female measures a massive 17mm body length, the largest I've found to date.
The species probably occurs in almost every house and outhouse in the UK. The spider makes its characteristic web of cribellate silk in cracks in the brickwork, under the eaves, under undisturbed rubble or debris and between cracks in wooden sheds and fences, etc. It is also occasionally found under bark in more natural habitats like woods especially where these are near habitation
