London General Omnibus Company B-Type bus (B2737, LH 8186) built in 1914 and requisitioned for War Duties. Tracks to the Trenches, Apedale Railway. 13 07 2018

Tracks to the Trenches - World War One event. This is the last in the series of events commemorating the role which light railways played serving the fighting men of all nations.

This actual bus is one of over 300 requisitioned for war duties, by the Government, in 1914. The London General Bus Drivers also went with their buses, most of whom stayed with them for the duration of the war.

After transporting troops to the front, they were used for all manner of general purposes, from taking supplies to the front and returning wounded troops back to hospitals.

Some were converted into mobile Pigeon Coups, holding the infamous 'Homing Pigeons', whilst others were stripped of the superstructure and used to mount Vickers Machine Guns, for use as anti aircraft platforms.
