Heartbreaker (1 of 4)

Believe me - my day (and sleepless night) were almost as bad as his. All day this cat sat and meowed at either our front or our back door or from the fence behind our house. After some investigation, it turns out many people from a couple different neighborhoods have seen this cat wandering around for at least two years (his large jowls prove he is well over a year which means he has already lived through at least one winter). Unfortunately, for George and me, he picked our doorstep to visit on a very wet, snowy, cold day. He was out there at 6:00 yesterday morning and didn't leave. By 10:00 last night I couldn't stand it anymore. Both George and I were sick with worry and so I finally caved and brought him into the unfinished part of our basement. I gave him a litter box, food, water and blankets and then tried (unsuccessfully) to get some sleep. When I went down this morning to check on him, he meowed and lead me to the door that opens to the outside. He hadn't used the box, eaten, drunk or even used the blankets. I'm not sure what to do. I'm leaning towards trying to ignore him and trust that he will get along as he has for the 1-2 years since he discovered me. Please do NOT suggest I keep him. It is NOT an option. I think he will be OK. He isn't underweight, his coat is thick and shiny, his eyes are clear, he has no nasal discharge, he doesn't act hungry, and has very healthy, white teeth and no wounds.

There are three more clickable pictures of this heartbreaker in the comments. For some reason I want to share his pictures with others so that I am not shouldering this worry all alone. That doesn't make any sense, but there you have it.
