Hindley Underwater Club c1950s /1960s

An astonishingly detailed illustrative badge that shows an outstretched figure of a scuba diver with breathing apparatus and fins. This was a membership badge for the Hindley Underwater Club, near Wigan in Lancashire, UK. The blue enamel background shows remarkable translucency and really conveys a sense of water. The badge was made by H W Miller and the style of illustration, along with the fixing mechanism of the brooch fitting, in all probability, dates to the 1950s/1960s.

 

The club is no longer in existence and despite contacting libraries in the Greater Manchester area, nobody to date, has been able to give any background information about the club's formation / folding (I'd be grateful to hear off anyone who has information about this club, thank you).
