Laura and the Mayor. Exactly 100 years ago the city of WInston and town of Salem came together to form Winston Salem (May 9, 1913). The city is planning a four day celebration. My oldest won the essay contest for best middle school essay. We are very proud. When I asked Mayor Joines for a picture he suggested a pose in front of city hall. That worked for me,
