My 91 Jeep Cherokee aka booshigi aka eep jr
I obtained this 91 2dr XJ back in September of 2011. It spent its previous life as a well maintained Hillsbourough County Park Services Vehicle. Took alot of work to get my hands on this XJ. This is the first year that the High Output 4.0L engine design was used. It has the AW4 automatic, and 3.55 Chrysler 8.25 rear axle. Only options are the A/C, drivetrain, vinyl flooring, and instrument cluster. This XJ is 2WD. When I got it, it had a completely stock, mushy, worn out 260,000 mile suspension, Chrysler LHS aluminum alloy 16" wheels and tires that kinda resemble skate wheels. Yea, you know the ones ;) So far, it got a complete 5k mile 6.5 inch Rough Country suspension lift (which was free because I told my boy that his wife was gonna nag him to death because she wouldnt be able to get in and out of their 96 XJ Country 2wd 4dr with their daughter). After having it on his XJ for about 8 months he calls me up with this deal. His offer: I trade him my entirely tired 206k mile suspension, worn out front brake system, pitted wheels and dry rotted tires for his 5k mile suspension, 15x8 black 8 hole wheels (also 5k miles), and a set of worn 31x10.50 15 Michelin LTX tires, fresh open diff 3.55 Dana 30 front axle from a 96 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 2 new hub assemblies, new rotors, pads, calipers, ball joints, and steering linkage. 4 brand new ranco shocks, adjustable upper and lower control arms, 6.5" drop pitman arm, taller coil springs, sway bar disconnect kit, adjustable track bar, full rear leaf springs, 2 position shackles, and Rancho shocks The deal: I can have all of that which is probably valued around $1600, but I have to do all of the work swapping the suspensions between the XJ's. Uh, music to my ears here! Hhmmm....my tired ass and shot stock suspension and shoes for your brand new suspension and shoes? Done deal!! You cant beat that deal with a wet noodle! Took me a couple days to get it all done with the much appreciated help of a few true friends! Thanks again guys! It has since been swapped and I love it. Since then ive fixed this and that, like replaced the fuel tank, fuel pump (5x before I got one that wouldnt die on me in within a few days), put some ProComp X-terrain 33x12.5 15" tires, (traded a used low mileage, transmission control solenoid for a 91 Caravan for all 4 tires), changed the rear axle due to the crosspin being sheared in 2 from doing burnouts with above mentioned ProComps lol. The entire rear brake system was replaced. Energy Suspension poly sway bar frame bracket bushings and greaseable brackets. Water pump, radiator and hoses, heater hoses, control valve was deleted, new Champion Coppers, DuraLast wires, distibutor cap and rotor button, universal joints, alternator, o2 sensor, Thrush glasspack muffler and rear section of the exhaust, Class III hitch, H4 headlight conversion, it has a single run safety hoop between the front and rear seats, 4 brand new Scoshe 6.5" Hi Def speakers, and Pioneer DEH-4000 series CD player, new door glass, red led flood light like the police use for dome lights up front and one white one in the cargo area, and blue mood lighting under the dash. I also fabricated 1x1" steel square into lowering blocks for the transmission crossmember to eliminate the driveline vibration (thats why it has new u joints ;) ), removed the factory crossmember alignment bolts and used GM TH4L60E bellhousing to case bolts as replacements, no more vibration! New motor and transmission mounts, repaired the stripped trans drain plug that leaked like a strainer, thermostat, starter, battery, Mossy Oak seat covers and a gel steering wheel cover lol. Cant forget the creature comforts now can we? Future plans include finding a 4wd AW4 transmission, rebuild it myself and upgrade the servo system, reprogram and upgrade the valvebody to eliminate any design weaknesses, QuadraTrac 249j AWD transfer case from a Grand Cherokee Limited, upgrade the rear axle to Ford 8.8 axle with 4.10 gears and limited slip from a newer 4x4 Ranger, LockRite diff and 4.10 gears in the Dana 30 front housing. Bushwacker cut out fender flares to accomodate the 37x15.50 15" mud tires. Make some additions to the safety hoop to make it a full cage and help stiffen the XJ's unibody construction up. 3 more inches of lift and it will either get a long arm suspension kit or a custom fabricated 4 link setup front and rear, also converting the rear suspension over to coil spring like its big brother, the 93-98 ZJ Grand Cherokee. HID bulb upgrade (the reason for the H4 bulb conversion). A sub and amp. Ram Air Snorkel system. Perfomance throttle body and spacer. Swap the 91 intake manifold out for a 99 and newer 4.0 PowerTech intake manifold (i hear it drastically out performs and outflows the original H.O. design producing much better low end torque response, better top end performance, economy, and a crisper throttle response). Crane Cams cam and lifter kit. Eliminate the catalytic converter. Upgrade the charging system with 2 Optima Yellow Top batteries. Mean Green 140 amp alternator. 20 gallon foam filled fuel cell. Upgrade, convert and replace the entire HVAC system. MSD Super Conducter 8.8mm plug wires, E3 spark plugs, MSD factory replacement performance ignition coil (relocated to fire wall to protect it from engine vibrations, MSD 6 series Off Road 4x4 cd ignition box with Soft-Rev in place, Alabama Cylinder Head's Performane 4.0L cylinder head, roller rockers, stroke the engine with an older 4.2L crankshaft, .030 over SpeedPro hyperuetectic aluminum slugs with the DuroShield skirt coating, file fit SpeedPro Chrome Moly piston rings, and Eagle H-beam connecting rods. ARP fasteners to hold the engine together. Piggyback performane computer programmer and chip, custom 2.5" diameter stainless steel exhaust system from the Banks Performance Stainless Steel Exhaust Header to the stainless single inlet, dual outlet Flowmaster DeltaFlow 40 series 3 chamber muffler (I want it loud, not annoying). Maybe a set of AutoMeter C2 series performance gauges. Just dont know where to mount them, especially if I purchase the C2 5" Monster Tach with shift light. A few other odds and ends not worth mentioning lol. I think that about covers it. Oh, and one more thing. The carnage that is the front end of eep jr is the result of eep jr's alter ego, Booshigi. Goes on a rampage on fully moon lit nights and stalks and kills poor innocent young pine trees to satisfy his trail lust. Its sad really, the episodes get worse eat time Booshigi is allowed to roam free, and this time it was so bad that a strong, more mature pine tree fought back, breaking Booshigi's jaw and knocking his front teeth out. Rumor has it that Booshigi has been in seclusion, healing from his wounds, getting stronger by the day, his anger increasingly growing stonger as he readies himself for the battle that will ensue. Haha, hahahaha, BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stay tuned for future episodes of Dr. eep and Mr. Booshigi
