Enchanting Blarney Castle, County Cork Ireland

Blarney Castle is a medieval stronghold in Blarney, near Cork, Ireland. Earlier fortifications were built on the same spot, but the current keep was built by the MacCarthy of Muskerry and dates back to 1446. The castle is now a partial ruin with some accessible rooms and battlements. At the top of the castle lies the Stone of Eloquence, better known as the Blarney Stone. Tourists visiting Blarney Castle may hang upside-down over a sheer drop to kiss the stone which is said to give the gift of eloquence. It is not the biggest nor the oldest castle in Ireland, but it easily ranks as its most popular, with hundreds of thousands of travelers coming from around the world to stroll the 1,500-acre grounds, explore the 14th-century castle, and of course, kiss the Blarney Stone.
