Micro bat
A very rare sighting of a tiny micro bat , which chose to shelter on the brick wall under cover of the veranda during daytime. You can gauge the size of this little creature against the height of the brick. They are nocturnal and feed on insects in the dark of night. Normally it would find a hiding spot in a tree or cave, in the bush, which is nearby, but obviously can adapt to suburban living.
I have only seen one other, about 20 years ago, which was in a garden bed and not looking very well, but it was sent to WIRES , an organisation which looks after native animals.
I found this website which describes various micro bats in Australia. www.allaboutbats.org.au/micro-bats/
