As part of the Heritage Open Days weekend the Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership arranges for Haltwhistle station and signal box to be opened to the public. With guided tours of the site the event seemed to be attracting quite a few visitors to the historic station.

The 1901 built signal box is no longer used to control traffic on the line but the levers remain in place in what was, at it's peak, an 85 lever frame, controlling the junction between the Tyne Valley line and the Alston branch.
